Mountains Seen On The Way To Everest Base Camp Trek.

The area around Mount Everest is home to some of the highest peaks in the world. Everest Base Camp is a base camp on the south side of Mount Everest that is used by mountain climbers during their ascent of the mountain. It is used as a temporary home by climbers as they acclimate to the high altitude and get ready for their summit attempt. It is situated at an elevation of about 5,364 meters (17,598 feet) above sea level. Trekkers who wish to take in the majesty of the Himalayas and get a close-up look at some of the highest mountains in the world frequently travel to the base camp. An intensive walk across Nepal’s Solu-Khumbu area, renowned for its untamed environment and breathtaking mountain views, is required to reach the base camp.

Peak Visor App – On the journey to Everest  Base camp Trek.

We would like to thank the Peak Visor app for making such a wonderful app that lets you view all the names of the mountains visible through your mobile device camera. The app has helped us a lot to recognize the mountains precisely and get the altitude of the mountain easily.

Typically, the journey begins with a flight to Lukla from Kathmandu or Ramechapp. The flight lets us enjoy a breathtaking view of numerous mountain ranges, including the AnnapurnaManaslu, and other Mountain Ranges. At the height of roughly 2,800 meters (9,186 feet) above sea level, Lukla a small town in Nepal’s Solu-Khumbu area is a starting point for treks to Everest Base Camp and other nearby locations. Beautiful mountain vistas may be seen from Lukla, with snow-covered peaks reaching high into the sky. The stunning Mt. Karyolung(6465 m), Mt. Khatang(6776 m), and Nupla(5869 m) are the first ones to be witnessed at the start of the trek.

We don’t get to view many of the mountains on the hike from Lukla to Phakding because we have to go through many dense jungles and travel beside their bases. Before we get to Phakdin, Mt. Thamserku(6623m) is the first of several gorgeous mountains we can view. Before Namche, Topdada at an altitude of 3140m is the only place to get the first glimpse of Mt. Everest. It is considered the first place to get a sight of Mt. Everest before Namche Bazar. Usually, a lot of tourists stop there to take their first view of Everest.

Namche Bazar: The Gateway to Everest.

The entrance to the Khumbu region, which encompasses Mount Everest, is Namche Bazar. Many mountain peaks, some of which rise above 8,000 meters (26,000 feet), may be seen from Namche Bazar. From Namche Bazar, you might be able to see certain mountains, like:

  • Mt. Everest (8,848 meters/29,029 feet)
  • Lhotse (27,940 feet / 8,516 meters)
  • Nuptse (25,771 feet/ 7,855 meters)
  • Ama Dablam, which is 6,812 meters (22,349 feet) high
  • Kangtega (6,782 meters/22,251 feet) and Thamserku (6,623 meters/21,719 feet).

Especially on a clear day, the views of these mountains from Namche Bazar are probably stunning. Since the town is 3,440 meters(11,286 feet) above sea level, it provides a good vantage point for viewing the nearby peaks.

On a two-hour detour from Namche Bazar, we can reach Everest View Point where the first clear view of Everest and other surrounding mountains can be viewed. The picture below is taken from the viewpoint where we can observe the mountains in the following respective order- starting from the North – Mt. Khumbila(5717m), Mt. Taboche(6495 m), Mt. Nuptse 1 Peak(7861 m), Mt. Everest(8848 m),  Mt. Lhotse(8516 m), Mt. Ama Dablam (6856 m), Mt. Thamserku(6623 m), Mt. Kusum Kangguru(6367 m), Mt. Nupla(5869 m), Mt. Shar-Kongde Ri(6083m), Mt. Nup-Kongde Ri(6004 m).

Nangkartshang viewpoint | Dingboche – A Viewpoint to Remember!

Usually, the EBC trek requires acclimatization at two different places. One at Namche and another at Dingboche and both places consist of spectacular viewpoints. At Dingboche, the viewpoint, Nangkartshang is a 3 hours detour from Dingboche Village. The viewpoint is at 5073 m which lets us the majestic Mt. Makalu(8485 m) which is the fifth highest mountain in the world, Island Peak(6189m) which is a famous peak to climb in terms of difficulty, Mt. Karyalung and Mt. Numbur at North East from the viewpoint which are the source of the great Dhudhkunda Lake which is also a popular religious trek of the local Nepali People.

After the fulfilling view of the mountains at the viewpoint near Dengboche, after a few hours of trek towards Lobuche, along with a few peaks with six/seven thousand like Cholo(6040m), Nagpai Gosum Middle(7350 m), Nirekha(6153 m), there stands another majestic mountain – Mt. Cho You(8,188 m) which is the sixth-highest mountain in the world. Before we reach Lobuche, there lies another mystical mountain Mt. Pumori(7184m). George Mallory gave Mount Pumori its Sherpa name, which translates to “the Mountain Daughter.” In Sherpa, “Pumo” signifies a young girl or daughter and “Ri” indicates a mountain. Pumori is sometimes referred to as “Everest’s Daughter” by climbers. Mallory gave it the name Clare Peak in honor of his daughter.

Is Kala Pathar the best place to view Mt. Everest?

The Everest Base Camp(5,150m) is not the best place to witness Mt. Everest rather it is considered the farthest point one can reach before Everest. After the popular stone of the Base Camp, there lies the dangerous Khumbu Icefall which requires advanced mountaineering gears to approach it.

Peak Visor view from Kala Pathar

The best place to witness the magnificent Mt. Everest is Kala Pathar and probably the last one if you are not doing the three-pass EBC Circuit Trek. It is a detour from Gorakshep which is a three hours walk at an altitude of 5644m. Most of the guides take the tourist for the sunset view as at the sunrise Mt, Everest is in between which is considered less exciting than the sunset. Another famous peak that is considered easy in terms of climb is Lobuche Peak(6119m) which can be observed from Kala Pathar.

Conclusion

A visit to Everest Base Camp is one of the most popular destinations in the Everest region. Even if you are not a mountaineer, a trip to Everest Base Camp can still be rewarding and memorable. Like any other journey, there’s no single correct way to approach it—just choose the itinerary that best meets your needs. Whether it’s spending a night at the Everest Base Camp or viewing the majestic peak from nearby Kala Patthar, you’re sure to find something to keep your adrenaline pumping on this journey to the roof of the world.
